Grading a commercial parking lot is one of the most important aspects of a paving job. Proper grading prevents standing water problems — the cause of most pavement failures. To achieve adequate drainage, a slope of 2 – 5% is recommended by the Wisconsin Asphalt Paving Association. A slope flatter than 2% for a parking lot makes it more susceptible to surface puddles and ponding. When grading a commercial parking lot like this one we recently completed in Mukwonago, we take special care to make sure the sub-grade meets the elevations required to produce a hard, uniform and well-packed surface.
