Job Summary
Responsible to and under the direction of the owner. The Shop Mechanic or Diesel Technician will be responsible for maintaining the shop and all equipment (both diesel and other). Equipment may include but not limited to trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, pavers, mills, compactors, snow blowers and other pieces of equipment. The Shop Mechanic will also clean, maintain and secure all equipment according to safety and maintenance regulations, policies and procedures and OSHA.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts and repairing accordingly
- Correct all vehicle deficiencies
- Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems
- Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine safety and combustion control standards
- Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and painting as needed
- Maintains all vehicle records
- Keeps all shop equipment operating in safe condition
- Operates all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way
- Performs required daily safety and maintenance checks and adhere to all safety and maintenance regulations
- Review and understand all equipment and safety operations manuals
- Participate in safety meetings and crew meetings
- Consistently use all personal and field safety protection equipment
- Ensures heavy equipment is safely and securely stored
- Conducts on site safety rounds
- Contain costs of repair by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options
- Keeps shop in clean and orderly condition
- Complete other work as assigned
- Consistently follow all Policies and Procedures contained in the Employee Handbook
- Any other duties as assigned by Johnson and Son’s Paving or direct supervisor

Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- High School diploma or equivalency (GED)
- Wisconsin drivers’ license
- Commercial Drivers’ License – Class A, B and C
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Truck Mechanic or Diesel Technician

- Develop and maintain a good rapport with all members of Johnson and Son’s Paving as well as all clients
