Maintenance of your asphalt:

Proper preventative maintenance is the key to prolonging the life of your asphalt pavement. The best way to prevent major expenses is to crack fill, sealcoat, and perform asphalt patching, when necessary, on a regular basis. We use state-of-the-art equipment and material, hire educated professionals, and perform the newest application techniques to ensure the highest-quality project and is completed on time and on budget.

Patching

When areas of deterioration arise in your pavement, there are three methods that Johnson & Sons Paving uses to correct the problems.

  • Saw cut and remove the existing asphalt, re-compact the base stone, and re-patch or pave the asphalt to match the existing pavement around it.
  • Inferred Heat repair. Johnson & Sons can reheat the existing asphalt, rake it out, add new asphalt as needed and re-compact, leaving a seamless joint-less repair.
  • Tack and Patch. Johnson & Sons Paving will clean the area, apply tack coat patch with hot mix asphalt, and compact.
Crackfilling and Sealcoating

Johnson & Sons strongly recommends maintaining your asphalt to assure the longest life possible. The most important thing that can be done is filling cracks to stop or slow rainwater from entering the stone base, which creates softness in the stone base, allowing the asphalt above it to crack and fail. This should be done every 1 to 2 years, depending on need.

Sealcoating guards the asphalt against the sun, ice, salt, oils, and other chemicals that shorten the life of your pavement. Sealcoating should be done every 2 to 3 years. This will ensure a longer-lasting life for your pavement, lower repair costs, and put off replacement. Sealcoat gives a fresh new black appearance to your pavement.
