HR Manager

Johnson and Sons Paving is one of the fastest growing commercial asphalt paving contractors in Southeastern Wisconsin. We have a need for a Human Resource Manager to develop and implement HR practices, build a unique industry culture, and enable our business to achieve broader business objectives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be a coach/ advocate and business partner to the owner and the leadership team
  • Actively manage employee relations and facilitate the process between employees and leadership to discuss/ resolve issues
  • Determine best strategies/ actions for hiring and retention of employees
  • Analyze/ implement employee training and development needs
  • Drive consistent application of employment policies and employee development by reviewing management actions; advising managers; reviewing disciplinary, appraisal & counseling actions
  • Direct and coordinate recruiting, selection, and onboarding of talent
  • Administer core HR processes: oversee payroll functions, administer and implement insurance benefits, conduct performance appraisals, build compensation objectives
  • Promote employee engagement and incentive plans to drive a values-based performance culture
  • Encourage leadership to drive a value-based performance culture
  • Provide sound HR judgment when problem-solving and making decisions
  • Manage and execute HR programs that directly collates with the mission and vision of the company
  • Provide effective, clear and concise communication to all employees in a fast-paced hard-working environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Business with an emphasis in HR/ B.S. Degree in Human Resource
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR Laws and regulations
  • 3+ years of HR experience and/ or training within the construction environment
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with leadership and employees
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered

Field Operations Manager

Diesel Technician/Mechanic

If you have the experience, skills and passion for repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, trucks and vehicles, contact us now!

We’re looking for an honesty, upbeat mechanic with a high school diploma or GED, 5 or more years of experience and a valid Wisconsin Drivers’ License. Score extra points with a Class A, B or C CDL. You get to use your impressive mechanic skills to keep our vehicles and our shop equipment maintained and running. And you get to hang out every day with some very cool folks who enjoy working for a company recently named as one of Milwaukee’s Fortune 50 fastest growing.

Line Striper Foreman

You’ll be responsible for striping parking lots, driveways and roads as scheduled, working in accordance with OSHA safety standards.  Other duties may include general contracting, power washing, preventative maintenance, etc.  Requires at least 5 years of line striping or related experience. Seal coating experience and/or CDL Class A license is a plus.

Concrete & Asphalt Paving Teams

If you have a strong work ethic and good problem solving skills,we may have a place for you on our asphalt or concrete teams.  Responsibilities include setting up and taking down job sites, set up and pour concrete using floats, trowels, and screeds; shovel, rake and level asphalt, maintain/clean equipment, and occasionally drive a pickup truck.   If you’re a hard worker looking to earn money, you’ll appreciate the long hours, paid time and a half for overtime and some work on weekends.

General Laborer

Seal Coat Team

Experience not required, as we’ll train the right person who has a strong work ethic, is dependable and is a team player. You’ll work outside in the elements and help out with seal coating, prep work, cleanup work, directing truck traffic and more. You’ll average 60-70 hours per week. during the season, including some late nights and occasional weekends and get paid time & a half for overtime!

Office Assistant

We are looking for someone with excellent phone skills, basic computer skills and the ability to multi-task.  The ability to work independently and work well with others is appreciated, as well as a friendly attitude, willingness to learn, ability to prioritize and dependability.  Flexible schedule working at least 20 hours per week.
